Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important political figure said the attack made him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
